Without further information on your laptop, it is difficult to isolate the cause. The unit refers to the many options you have connections, but if there is a 1 TB drive can not work with older systems.
It also depends on how you try to connect - Firewire, USB, SATA, etc. It could be as simple as a dirty port - unless you regularly turn on your laptop (at least a week) then the dirt / dust in the connection port is entirely possible. You must make sure that what you make of the connection unit is also able to feed properly. Sometimes you can be so focused on the problem of connecting PC-Drive, which is not you realize that it turned on.
If it is an older system, you first need a USB connection. Also check the playback settings automatically - if not proven, the autoplay settings are probably not properly or completely deleted. Without knowing your operating system, I can not tell you how to set it up so you have to do yourself.
in Vista is easy - Control Panel, Autoplay, then adjust the configuration settings for external devices.
You can also try a manual installation using the Hardware Wizard.
Note: If you are prompted for an installation CD that has most of the new external hard drives, the installation files already in the unit, usually installed when the disk is detected by the Plug and Play. "Since yours does not (and can be not the game auto-detection), you must download the installation files from the Stock Exchange Web site and install on your file before running the wizard. Another option, if another system can upload files in the external hard drive to a DVD or CD Save and you have to install them on your laptop.
Connect the external USB port or another, then go to:
1. Panel hardware (such as Vista or XP)
2. Follow the wizard to perform manual installation.
